Public Transportation Strike during MWC 2012

Mobile World Congress is THE biggest event in Barcelona. Although it’s February, not the best time for tourism, MWC attracts more than 50.000 people to the biggest event in Mobile industry. There are estimates of 120 million EUR spent by those attending the MWC. As it happens, it’s also the best date to organize a strike. Impact would be huge. So many executives being there, not all use limo service and taxi. Plus, most of the attendees use public transport in and out of Fira. Not being able to get there, most will reconsider coming back to MWC. This gives a huge leverage to TMB strike commitee. They expect Barcelona will kneel and give them what they are asking for. Will they!?

What about us, people going there? Well, we can always hope they’ll come to some sort of agreement. In the meantime, we can only plan to bring there some light walking shoes, and hope for nicer weather.

HTC_ChaCha

“When you push that button …” was HTC mantra at this year’s MWC presentation. Let’s push the button.

ChaCha is first in a new generation of Facebook phones. As FB counts more than 500 million users, everybody wants to be friends. HTC is usually among the first, this time being no exception. ChaCha is equipped with keyboard, which points to teenage user group as target for this phone. Keyboard is easier for lots of messaging, but FB button is there to save you the trouble. One can’t help but wonder if something is obsolete here.

FB button helps integrate phone features into FB page, serving as HTC Sense for FB. For example, if you’re listening to a song, push of a FB button automatically publishes name of the song and the author on FB. Button is context-aware, gently pulsing with light whenever there is an opportunity to share content or updates through Facebook. With a single press of the button, you can update your status, upload a photo, share a Website, ‘check in’ to a location and more. For example, you can take a photograph of friends on your phone and upload it instantly to Facebook by simply pressing the button.

HTC_Releases_Five_New_Phones

Barcelona,

HTC just released five new phones. They were presented at Mobile World Congress 2011. Last but not least, here is the latest and greatest addition to the family – HTC Tablet.

2011 HTC phone portfolio.

First two phones (starting from left) are “Facebook friendly”. After months of rumors, guessing and several denials there are plans for HTC Facebook phone, we are presented with ChaCha and Salsa. Both phones have Facebook branding and one touch access to FB. From initial Press Release only things conclusive are lack of good names for the phones and dedicated FB button.

New devices feature Android Gingerbread 2.3.3, and use the latest iteration of HTC Sense to integrate Facebook throughout the HTC Sense experience. While making a phone call, dialer screen displays friend’s latest status and photo, even tells if their birthday is approaching. Same goes for receiving  a call from a Facebook friend. Phone can use existing contacts to connect with them on Facebook or personalize your handset further with a number of new, Facebook-branded widgets.

Phones will be available in Q2 2011.
